February 19, 2008 - Important News Flash: Club Memberships May Be Taxable in the State of Washington

Post One:

This just in from Marion Dukes, of the Black Diamond Gun Club:

"Kim,

I belong to the Black Diamond Gun Club.  We just completed an audit by the Dept. of Revenue for sales tax.  We initially thought that the the audit went well.  However we received a follow-up call and it was the auditor's opinion that we need to pay sales tax on our yearly membership dues.  This was based on how the state treats health clubs who provide a lot of equipment for the members to use.  We charge sales tax on all of the items we sell at the club and on the rounds of trap.  However we have a rifle and pistol range that is free for the members to use.  So, do you have an e-mail list for the  Washington club reps?  I will probably need to contact each of them.

Thanks,

Marion Dukes"

If you have any questions about whether your club falls into this category, please feel free to email Marion at:  tmdukes@msn.com

January 7, 2008 - Walla Walla Gets Oregon ATA State Shoot (and other news)

Post One:

Congrats to the Walla Walla Gun Club for being selected as the site for the 2008 Oregon ATA State Shoot!  The dates will be April 3-6, and promises to be a great shoot.  Oregon has a very attractive trophy package, both in state and out of state.

In other news, straight from Bob McLendon, Vice President of the WSTA and board member for the Spokane Gun Club, please find the following information regarding the Inland Empire;

The IE winter league does start this Weekend, and runs for 10 weeks with two weeks thrown out, so if your club only shoots for eight weeks it will still be in the running.

I do need current addresses for everyone, so I can mail out last years checks and this years Raffle Tickets.  Two Dollars for every ticket will go back to the clubs that sold them again this year.

Scores can be mailed, faxed, or sent in via e-mail, this will also work for point of contact addresses, also.  Any other questions just ask.

December 19, 2007 - Memorial Services for Josef (Joe) Ljutic Planned

It is with deep sadness that I report the passing of Josef (Joe) Ljutic.  The son of Al and Nadine, Joe was a member of the WSTA Hall of Fame, and was a legend in the sport of trapshooting.  He will truly be missed.

Joe Ljutic

Mike Scharbach, owner of Scharbach's Columbia Funeral Home, and fellow trapshooter, reports the following information:

Memorial Services for Joe Ljutic are to be held Sunday, December 23, 2007, at 3:00PM at the Open Bible Christian Center, in Yakima, WA.  The address is 2701 Lincoln Avenue.  Telephone:  (509) 972-1895.

In lieu of flowers a college trust fund has been established for Dominique and Nicole Ljutic. Donations may be made in care of Ljutic LLC, 2402 W. J. Street, Suite A, Yakima, WA 98902.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, and the trapshooters of Washington State, I extend our sympathies, prayers, and heart-felt condolences to the entire Ljutic Family.

December 10, 2007 - Gearing up for 2008!

Greetings and Happy Holidays to all this holiday season!

I am excited to announce that the Washington State Trapshooting Association website has a new look and feel, as well as updated information.

In addition to the updated website, we will be submitting a monthly column in On Target Magazine, which will give us more exposure throughout the Pacific Northwest.  We urge those shooters who don't typically travel to the east side to give our ATA shoots a try!  Some big news for WA Shooters is the selection of the Walla Walla Gun Club as the site for our 2008 State Shoot.  Walla Walla has recently secured a long-term lease and looks to host many fine shoots this year and going forward.  With a comprehensive in-state and non-resident trophy package, we are truly aiming for all who attend to have a good time.  With a trap line overlooking North-facing wheatfields as far as the eye can see, it is a shooter's dream!  Throw in a region of world-class wineries and eclectic entertainment, there is something for everyone in Walla Walla.  There is plenty of RV parking, but it is best to reserve your space early.

The 2008 Inland Empire Handicap will be held in Spokane, and the Spokane Gun Club, and promises to be yet again, a fantastic 5 day shoot!

Speaking of fantastic shoots, congratulations to the Spokane Gun Club for being chosen to host the Western Satellite Grand, in September.  Please make plans to attend, as shooter participation will reflect where the shoot is awarded, going forward.

Remember....the ATA Big 50 is an excellent way to bring new shooters to our clubs!  More information can be found on the ATA website.

That's it for now....enjoy your holidays, stay safe, and break 'em all!

~Kim Stephens
