Ballade of a Bookworm

Trains

Recently the city passed an ordinance/law/rule thingummy saying trains can't use their whistles here in town. I think there's a six week grace period for the trains to get used to the idea, but already the sound of train whistles has noticeably decreased. I can understand the reasoning behind this change, but still it makes me sad. I always liked hearing them at odd moments--perhaps because it was usually only late at night, after everyone else around me was already asleep. I love night, and the train whistles quite simply seemed to belong, a secret only a few were aware of. Whatever the reason, and even though so many others appear to find them annoying, I will miss them.

Want to know what sort of books Viggo Mortensen might be reading? Browse his bookshelf with thanks to Oprah. Many more notable people share their book recommendations on her site as well.

I have to wonder when people will learn that banning a book only makes it more likely that people will read it. Most banned books of the 1990s.

One of the (many) books I'd like to read: Before Green Gables

And the word about town is that the Olsen twins are working on a book. About fashion.

So, HarperCollins has posted Neil Gaiman's American Gods on their website, access it here free.

It's been a long day so I'm out for the night.
