Playing less hands = more profit

Posted on May 11, 2008 at 07:05 PM
One thing I have been trying to do this month is actually play LESS hands. Over the weekends in the past I have normally played about 5K hands or even more. This month, thanks to a new outlook on poker from reading Tommy Angelo's book Elements of Poker, I have been trying to play less, better quality hands and quite each session well.

Here are my results for the weekend.

(This includes full ring and 6max so my VPIP is low)

I played under 1k hands and really felt great while playing. Obviously I ran hot so that helped too.

Here is the graph
Thats all for today.

Take care

HI Hypno

Nice Graph. Was just thinking for the reason for playing less hands.

Have you spend less time on playing or played less tables?

I think that there is no doubt that playing less tables, only 1 or 2, maximizes the quality of your game and you in game thinking. But do that compensate for the benefits of multitabling, do you think?

Hi!

Hi and thanks for your comment.

When I play I usually start out playing 1 table, and once I have established a good feel for the table, I start another and play 2 tables for the remainder of the session.

For full ring play, will play as many as 4 tables since you are involved in less pots and the players are usually far more passive than shorthanded players so the spots are less difficult.

Even when I was playing a ton of hands, I still played about 2-3 tables max, I just played very long sessions even when I was tired, or playing bad, or stuck... I just did not quit well. this is the major leak that I have been trying to plug by focusing on the quality of my hands that I play rather than the quantity.

Take care!
